DESCRIPTION: The big Bimmer 850i lets you blow past most of the proles on the road. The 8-series' mission wasn't to tear up back roads, The 1991 BMW 850i was blasted by the automotive industry to grab attention on the boulevard - and nearly two decades later, it still turns heads. The 850i was a technological showcase, boasting cutting-edge luxury features such as remote keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, a power tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, a twelve-speaker stereo, and windows that automatically closed at high speeds. An active five-link rear suspension helped steer the 850i at the limit, and an early form of electronic stability control helped keep the big coupe on course.
Its motivation comes from the same splendid 5.0-liter V-12 found under the hood of the 750iL sedan. This engine, as you may remember, specializes in smoothness and tranquility while developing 296 hp at 5200 rpm.Mated to a four-speed automatic, the mighty V-12 catapulted our 850i from standstill like an F-16 being launched off a carrier. Blast-off to 60 mph takes just 6.3 seconds, the quarter-mile dash is over in 14.9 seconds at 96 mph. EPA rating city/highway: 12/19 mpg
