DESCRIPTION: The 2019 Mini Cooper is tuned by Mini's in-house performance division, John Cooper Works, the JCW hardtop and convertible offer racy styling tweaks and exclusive chassis tuning versus the regular versions. The droptop Mini makes open-air romps even more exciting, whereas its hardtop counterpart is about 200 pounds lighter than the convertible and therefore slightly quicker. Both JCW variants are a blast to drive despite their bloated price tags and diminished ride quality on bumpy roads. The latest JCW feels a significant step up in performance terms over the last generation. The 23 per cent rise in torque is most noticeable, although the electronic limited-slip diff can’t always distribute power across the axle effectively with the increased grunt. For the most part though, the new JCW never feels anything other than rapid.
Both the coupe and convertible JCWs are powered by a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that sends 228 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. The JCW hatch goes from 0 to 62mph in 6.1sec for the eight-speed automatic
